Eliquid, also sometimes referred to as e juice or smoke juice, is the nicotine-based liquid that people use in their electronic cigarettes. Opinions about the safety of vaping go to both extremes. Some well-meaning health groups condemn the technology, while others point out the many ways that the use of eliquid is healthier than smoking cigarettes.
One big player in the arena of public opinion, especially in the use of nicotine, is the American Heart Association. Many were shocked when the AHA issued a statement supporting eliquid as a safer alternative to smoking.
They rightfully point out that there are many dangerous constituents derived from tobacco that are simply not present in eliquid, and they point out that many have been successful at breaking their nicotine additions through the use of it.
Though it can vary by manufacturer, there are typically four main ingredients in eliquid, propylene glycol, vegetable glycerin, nicotine, and flavor. With the exception of the nicotine, the other ingredients can be found in a multitude of food and household products.
The nicotine amount is very controlled, and eliquid can be bought with amounts ranging from 24 mg or more, all the way to having no nicotine at all. This gives the consumer the ability to control their nicotine intake precisely, something not as easily accomplished through smoking cigarettes. Knowing how much nicotine they are consuming makes it much easier to cut back from week to week.
While nobody is likely to claim that consuming nicotine in any form is a healthy choice to make, it is beyond debate that eliquid is a much healthier form of obtaining nicotine for those who do decide to use it.
The reduced risk of harmful side effects, when compared to either smoking cigarettes or using smokeless tobacco products, makes it the best option for most people.
